Design direction
Mara’s work begins with the life a building needs to support. As Founding Architect, she connects the broader design direction to the practical questions of use, identity and the experience of moving through a place.
A strong brief gives those decisions a purpose. Understanding the activities, ambitions and constraints behind a project allows the architecture to develop from something more useful than an image alone.
Areas of focus
Spatial organisation, material character and the relationship between a building and its surroundings form a connected set of design questions. Mara’s role keeps these questions in view as the team moves from an initial idea towards a more resolved proposal.
Collaboration with engineering and construction brings another perspective to that process. Testing the design against practical considerations helps keep the architectural intent connected to how the building will be made and used.
Starting the conversation
Bring your site, your priorities and a sense of what success would look like for the people using the building. Early sketches and references can help, but a clear explanation of the challenge is an equally valuable place to begin.
